What are my career opportunities as a Project Engineer?

The Project Engineer program has been designed to expose you to all aspects of Structural Group’s business. Throughout the program, we work with you to determine the ideal career path based on your goals and skills. Some of our participants in the Project Engineer Program have become Project Managers, Chief Engineers, Division Managers and Branch Managers.

What is the Project Engineer rotation?

Structural Group utilizes a rotation to systematically expose you to the different aspects of our business (i.e., Business Development, Project Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, etc.). The rotation allows you to make informed decisions about your career development. In general, each rotation ranges from six months to one year long.

What are a Project Engineer’s responsibilities?

As a Project Engineer, each part of your rotation will involve different responsibilities. You will be part of several projects where you are responsible for field supervision, tracking job costs/man-hours, job performance, client contact, and estimating. You will also be involved in business development by establishing and maintaining client relationships and providing technical presentations. Engineering and manufacturing rotations are part of the Project Engineer Program with VSL and Pullman Power.

Can I get my Professional Engineer’s License with Structural Group?

Yes. The Project Engineer Program provides the mentoring and experience necessary to attain your P.E. License.

Describe the work performed by SPS, VSL, and Pullman Power.

Structural Group is comprised of three dynamic and diversified companies. Structural Preservation Systems, Inc. is the largest specialty contractor focusing on structural repair and strengthening. VSL is the technical leader in the design, manufacturing and installation of post-tensioning systems. Pullman Power leads the industry in chimney, silo and stack construction, maintenance and repair.

What are the advantages of working for a self-performing specialty contractor?

The primary advantage of self-performance contracting is having personal ownership of your projects. We are not dependent upon sub-contractors and employees of other companies to meet our goals and expectations. During your career with Structural Group, you will develop relationships with co-workers, learn their strengths and leverage those strengths to complete your jobs in the most efficient manner.

What type of training opportunities do you offer?

Throughout the Project Engineer Program, you will be exposed to a wide variety of programs such as project management, sales, leadership and safety training. As a Project Engineer, you will have complete access to our Comprehensus Knowledge Management System which has over 900 video documentaries and training programs accessible via the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How will my performance be evaluated?

Your performance will be reviewed constantly through feedback from your mentor and other team members. On an annual basis, individual performance will be evaluated.

Does Structural Group offer tuition reimbursement?

We offer tuition reimbursement on a case-by-case basis.

Where are your offices located?

Structural Group provides specialized services through operating centers across the United States. Our corporate headquarters is in Baltimore, Maryland.

Do you offer internships/co-ops?

Yes. We accept resumes for summer internships from undergraduate and graduate students. Our internship program is an excellent way for you to gain exposure to our business, and a great way for us to identify future Project Engineers.
