Located in Arlington, VA, the Metropolitan at Pentagon City is a contemporary state-of-the-art 15-story apartment facility with 325 rental units. The tower is shaped in a modified radial "U" shape to create an inviting courtyard space and to maximize the view for courtyard apartments. VSL worked closely with the structural engineer and concrete contractor to provide placement drawings, design support and post-tensioning materials. The superstructure is comprised of a two-way post-tensioned slab system using unbonded tendons. More than 800,000 feet of 0.5 inch diameter strand was used to reinforce the structure. A flat plate design was selected to avoid column-drop panels and to maximize floor-to-ceiling clearance. Tendons and hardware in the balconies were encapsulated for corrosion protection.
